Job Description
The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) invites applications for the position of Director, General Services. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this senior leadership role oversees statewide capital projects, facilities management, emergency preparedness, and space allocation processes. The successful candidate will manage diverse initiatives impacting UTIA facilities across Tennessee, including research and education centers, 4-H centers, botanical gardens, and extension offices.
Responsibilities
As the Director, General Services you will:
- Oversee all aspects of UTIA’s statewide capital project portfolio, including feasibility studies, design, programming, and construction.
- Develop and prioritize capital budget recommendations in alignment with UTIA’s strategic and master plans.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the UT System Department of Capital Projects.
- Partner with UTK Facilities Services on campus-based projects and maintenance needs.
- Ensure operational readiness of UTIA buildings and grounds.
- Supervise the UTIA Safety Office, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and effective emergency management.
- Manage campus-based space planning and allocation processes.
- Maintain accurate inventories and assignments of UTIA facilities.
- Serve as a member of UTIA’s senior leadership team and represent the institute on multiple committees.
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to a diverse team.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Structural Engineering, or Architecture.
- Experience: 10 years of experience in project design and/or construction administration/management. Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and/or construction practices.
- Skilled in project administration/management and budget development and management.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate unpredictable challenges and apply sound judgment to resolve complex, controversial, and/or unprecedented issues.
- Ability to lead effectively across complex organizations relying on collaboration and influence to foster teamwork and guide broad decision-making.
- Exceptional interpersonal relationship skills, including inclusive communication (oral and written), creative problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree. Professional licensure in Tennessee.
- Experience: 15 years of experience managing large-scale projects in multi-site organizations.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proficiency with enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Workday.

Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR18
- Anticipated hiring range: near mid-point of the market range depending on qualifications
