Job Description

This position is intended to lead and oversee operations within multiple campus zones, making decisions and addressing concerns as they arise. This individual should have a strong understanding of Life Safety Codes, Fire Regulations, and OSHA standards related to maintenance and repairs, possess knowledge of optimal repair solutions and have the ability to communicate effectively to implement and coordinate repair plans. This individual will manage campus maintenance and repair requests and supervises repair personnel, requiring a solid grasp of maintenance systems to evaluate service requests appropriately. This person must be a self-starter capable of collaboratively handling diverse situations and working with various individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operations of Maintenance and Repairs within assigned zones. Attends meetings to keep staff informed and addresses any concerns
  • Manages contracts and supervises roofing repairs.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of renovations, routine and special maintenance, and repairs, and has a solid understanding of operational processes.
  • Knowledgeable about all aspects of maintenance and repair, including system operations, assigned rooms, setup, installation, and required maintenance.
  • Responsible for ensuring ordering and maintaining necessary materials, hardware, and equipment.
  • Enforces University and Facilities Services policies, safety regulations, and applicable codes.
  • Assists faculty, staff, and students in resolving a wide range of maintenance and repair issues.
  • Ensures staff performance by delegating work orders, radio calls, and emails to repair personnel, while monitoring material and hardware needs throughout the day and offering support as necessary.
  • Estimates and coordinates jobs, including material pricing and ordering, labor costs, and guidance on procedures for maintenance and repair requests.
  • Responsible for hiring and interviewing applicants for maintenance and repair positions
  • Evaluate performance of personnel on an ongoing and annual and semi-annual basis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience:
    • Five years’ experience in Facility Maintenance and Repairs
    • Three years’ experience in a supervisory position with multiple employees with various levels of skilled crafts people
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to lead others, enforce policies & procedures and practice UT disciplinary action
    • Knowledge of safety measures and codes
    • Demonstrates positive attitude and interaction with others
    • Demonstrates reliability
  • Other Required Conditions
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Applicant must be willing to participate in the FS Facilitating Successful Leaders program; a 6-month probationary period that provides the employee with clearly defined expectations and supervisory feedback that is designed to develop and support successful leaders within Facilities Services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Vocational school/technical training or an Associate’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience:
    • Ten years’ experience in Facility Maintenance and Repairs
    • Eight years’ experience in a supervisory position with multiple employees with various levels of skilled crafts people
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to effectively manage/supervise a diverse group of personnel

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR12
  • Anticipated hiring range: $70,000 – $82,000
