Job Description
We are seeking a research specialist to join our two animal behavior labs examining behavioral aspects of infections (Stockmaier Lab; https://sebastian-stockmaier.com/) in bats and insects and decision-making strategies in bats and insects (Hemingway lab; https://thebatsandthebees.com/). The primary work of the research specialist will be local (and potentially international) fieldwork (including handling and experimenting on animals, conducting behavioral research protocols, and permit management) and lab work (including maintaining lab animals and experimentation, workspace safety, lab organization, and equipment inventory). The research specialist will also conduct basic data analysis tasks on our collected data. Additional tasks will include managing undergraduate researchers, supporting postdocs and graduate students, and oversight of PI-managed animal colonies.
Responsibilities

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: BS in Ecology & Evolution, Animal Behavior or related field
- Experience: 1-3 yrs experience in Animal Behavior, or other related work
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students; ability to demonstrate excellent and consistent record of research progress as evidenced by previous undergraduate, master, or technician experience in the laboratory and field. Rabies vaccination is strongly preferred (but not required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: MS in Ecology & Evolution, Animal Behavior, or a related field
- Experience: 3-5 years in Animal Behavior, or other related work
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proficiency in behavioral field or lab work with insects and/or bats are preferred but not necessary. Proficiency in data interpretation and statistical analysis is strongly preferred.
