Job Description
Develop programs and initiatives to meet the recruiting goals of the Baker School utilizing strong internal and external communication skills, knowledge of university processes, and alignment with institution-wide strategic plans. Modify programs as needed after assessing effectiveness. Provide academic advising, administer academic advising actions, and respond to course quality and delivery issues for curriculum development and leadership response. Assist in the recruiting process through communication, application tracking, and event planning/execution. Supervise student recruiters.
Responsibilities
RECRUITING STRATEGIES AND GOALS (25%)
- Work independently analyzing recruitment needs and developing programs and initiatives designed to meet the recruitment goals of the Baker School using defined metrics.
- Work to monitor the success of programs and initiatives by assessing strategies to determine effectiveness.
- Ensure achievement of Baker School graduate enrollment and recruitment goals by prioritizing recruitment events/programs and information sessions for all graduate programs (online, in-person, accelerated, joint degrees, and certificates) as allowed by University and State guidelines.
- Respond to Request for Information (RFI) interest forms through email correspondence and by meeting with prospective students
- Works with Digital Learning on the recruitment and admission of students for all online graduate programs.
- Educate prospective students on program requirements, application process, financial assistance, and University policies and procedures.
- Lead and manage all aspects of the admissions process for graduate programs.
- Coordinates with relevant external offices (e.g., Admissions, Diversity, Communications, Advising) to stay well informed about University and School priorities and initiatives to enable strategic planning of annual recruitment activities.
- Develop prospective student and applicant correspondence, as well as recruitment and promotional materials in partnership with the Communications Team.
- Determine effectiveness of events and implement changes based on assessments.
ENROLLMENT AND ADVISING (25%)
- Develop and distribute communications related to scholarships to students.
- Provide academic advising to students each semester. Provide both scheduled and drop-in availability to students.
- Place orrelease holds on student registration as needed.
- Develop, update, and utilize advising forms for all graduate programs.
- Provide assistance to students related to course registration, substitution requests, and overrides.
- Update information and make additions to the Graduate Programs Handbook as needed.
- Submit necessary graduation and program of study documents as required by the University.
- Help students think critically about their academic, personal, and professional goals, following the University's advising model
- Provide feedback and suggestions on curricula based on student feedback and issues observed, working with leadership to address student concerns.
MANAGE STUDENT SERVICES (25%)
- Manage relationships with prospective students by developing email campaigns to communicate with applicants and to monitor communications during the application process.
- Track in-progress applications and forecast the number of incoming students anticipated for future semesters.
- Respond to general inquiries, student emails, faculty questions, community opportunities, and interoffice planning efforts.
- Manage communications with online students.
- Plan and execute key graduate student events including orientation for in-person and online students, graduation, graduate student appreciation week, annual job and networking fair, and graduate symposium. Work with Communications and Marketing, and Events to plan event logistics including developing print and online promotions, recruiting volunteers, and acting as day-of event manager.
SUPERVISE STUDENT ACTIVITIES (25%)
- Under direction and guidance, supervise student recruiters, including managing the recruitment process and application; training incoming and returning student recruiters; scheduling tours and visits; approving payroll
- Assist with School events and initiatives, such as graduation, career fairs, and orientation sessions and other support as needed
- Assists in the development of recruitment strategies, sharing best practices with various stakeholders within the Baker School
Work with the Director of Graduate Studies to develop, administer, and evaluate annual alumni surveys. Use survey results to inform curriculum improvements, revise marketing materials, and report to accrediting agency

Required Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience:
- Two to three (2-3) years of relevant experience. Relevant work experience can be satisfied with time as a student worker or volunteer in college admissions, recruitment, and/or peer counseling/advising.
- Knowledge,Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to relate to a diverse university community (students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents)
- Capacity to utilize IT related to advising (Banner, OARS, Salesforce, other sources)
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a professional environment
- Ability to create, coordinate, and assess advising-related programs
- Ability to solely plan and implement Baker School recruitment efforts
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
- Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships.
- Must possess critical thinking skills and be able to logically support and make decisions independently
- Flexibility and ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-moving environment with
many priorities and activities advancing simultaneously.
- Ability to collect and analyze data for use in decision making and strategic planning
Preferred Qualification
Education:
- Master's Degree in higher education, public affairs, public administration, or related field
Experience:
- Academic advising experience will be given preference over other experience
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Working knowledge of academic organizational structures
- Expertise in best practices related to student recruitment and advising

- Remote work may be available on either Thursday or Friday with the permission of the position supervisor and consistent with institution regulations. This may be impacted by in person responsibilities and events which conflict with this schedule.
Compensation and Benefits

- Anticipated hiring range:
- $40,862.58 to $73,552.65

The Howard H. Baker Jr. School for Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School) was established in 2023 to honor the distinguished life and legacy of Howard H. Baker Jr., a former US Senator, Senate Majority Leader, White House Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to Japan. Located in a 51,000-sq. ft purpose-built facility, the Baker School evolved from the Baker Center, which for twenty years has operated as a think-tank producing research, public engagement programming, and an active set of student programs. The Baker School is very excited to add degree programs and to grow its research programming into independent research centers. In addition, the Baker School houses the Institute of American Civics, which is responsible for encouraging civic knowledge and civic participation among UT students and the state at large.
