Job Description

This position is responsible for assessing chemical water treatment systems to maintain optimal functioning of critical heating and cooling systems on campus. The role includes assisting in the setup and configuration of digital controllers and PLC-type controllers as required. The position holder will assist the assigned Foreman in carrying out designated tasks while also providing support to other areas within HVAC and Facilities Services as needed. Additionally, this position will take a lead role in managing and distributing chemical treatments for campus mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for testing, monitoring, repairing, and installing chemical feed systems in the hydronic heating and cooling water loops across the entire campus.
  • Ability to monitor and correct any deficiencies in chemicals and chemical delivery systems.
  • Able to understand the types and purposes of chemicals used to maintain the hydronic water loops on campus.
  • Report job information to supervision, including system repairs, deficiencies, necessary parts or materials, and any unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Monitor and document chemical levels, recording any adjustments made, and promptly report physical issues to ensure timely repairs and prevent equipment failure.
  • Assist with programming and setting up control systems for campus buildings and environmental systems, including reviewing new controls during construction projects.
  • Participate in training and classes to enhance understanding of Building Automation Systems and their operation.
  • Understand and operate test equipment used to monitor chemical levels in various hydronic water loops on campus.
  • Assist with the programming and operation of chemical feed controllers and other PLCs as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree Chemistry/Applied Science or equivalent

  • Experience:
    • No experience required
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to understand standard safety protocols used in handling and storing chemicals
    • Needs mechanical knowledge and skills to service chemical feed pumps and related equipment
    • Should have mechanical knowledge to recognize any deficiencies or problems with system equipment
    • Ability to maintain a good leave record
    • Ability to follow given instructions and keep records
    • Knowledge of Chemistry
    • Knowledge of chemical water treatment
    • Ability to use PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry/Applied Science or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • One year of work experience in a mechanical trade or two years of vocational school with college level chemistry courses.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of Chemistry
    • Understanding of chemical water treatment
    • Ability to use PPE
