Job Description

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is looking for a vibrant, dynamic individual interested in working in a team environment dedicated to student enrollment and success. This is a new position, which is an exempt, 12-month, full time, non-tenure track staff role that provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Position: As a member of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) Advising Services staff, the Recruitment Coordinator will serve the College’s departments, and interdisciplinary programs in identifying, recruiting, and enrolling top quality candidates from local and regional schools.

Responsibilities

Comprehensive job responsibilities:

  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of recruiting trends, as well as the latest strategies and tools of the
    trade needed to effectively reach target audiences,
  • Excel in communicating with diverse populations, representing the University and College in a
    manner that reflects its missions and strategic plan,
  • Work with prospective students throughout all aspects of the decision-making process and use
    effective interpersonal skills to ensure that the student is confident about their decision regardless
    of outcome for the University,
  • Create and conduct specialized and personalized on-campus experiences for prospective
    students and their families,
  • In conjunction with other staff, faculty, and academic Deans, develop an annual recruitment plan
    for CAS departments,
  • Manage recruitment events on behalf of the College,
  • Be able to discuss the academic and experiential learning opportunities within the College for all
    students interested in CAS majors as well as pre-health and pre-law programs,
  • Direct the CAS student ambassador program


Further specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and manage participation for, and at times travel to, in-state and out-of-state recruitment
    events for the College,
  • Conduct initial academic advising appointments for prospective first year and transfer students,
  • Assist with providing first time in college students with academic advising during new student
    orientation,
  • Coordinate the College’s involvement in large on-campus recruitment events by participating in
    and recruiting faculty, staff, and student ambassador participation in tabling, presentations, and
    tours,
  • Build out opportunities for engaging prospective transfer students virtually and at local and
    regional community colleges,
  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, and training of CAS student ambassadors, including running the
    application, interview, and selection process, team-leading a 1-hour student ambassador course,
    spring and fall retreats, and supervising student ambassador performance in conjunction with the
    Assistant Director,
  • Collaborate with communications and marketing departments to further develop the message
    content for prospective students for the College and the academic departments while adhering to
    branding guidelines,
  • Develop effective messaging strategies for faculty communication with prospective students
  • Maintain current knowledge of admissions policies and procedures by serving on admissions
    committees and developing professional rapport with key admissions stakeholders at the
    University level.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills
  • Proficiency with technology that supports both students and professional practice, such as MS
    Word, Excel, Student Information Systems, Degree Audits, Internet/ online resources, etc.
  • Administrative and organization skills with the ability to handle simultaneous projects
  • The ability to relate effectively to students and their families, faculty, support staff, and alumni
  • Ability to present complex information to groups of students, their families, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed
  • Skill in event organization and management

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree by start date
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a higher education setting with an emphasis on undergraduate
    student affairs
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of university admissions, financial aid, and travel policies
  • Ability to use new and unfamiliar technologies to enhance recruitment
  • Liberal arts background

Salary: $55,000
