Hiring for multiple vacancies
As a Human Resources Specialist at the College of Social Work you will play a pivotal role in shaping our workforce and fostering a supportive environment for our employees. We are the dynamic and growing research branch of the College of Social Work. We are looking for a motivated and creative individual who can be responsible for all aspects of HR including talent acquisition, training, onboarding, payroll, compliance, and employee documentation. An ideal candidate will be confident, knowledgeable of HR practices and able to work both independently and with our growing HR team not only at the college level but also at the University and system level.
Responsibilities
Payroll: complete monthly and bi-weekly payroll actions; additional pay; termination; labor distribution; payroll reports
Database Management: position creation and management; position changes; updates to employee HRS database; training and leave tracking; maintenance of employee files
Classification and Hiring: complete classification requests; position descriptions; job ads; provide guidance on salary and classification to units; conduct equity reviews
Employee Relations: administration of leave including tracking and compliance with UT policy; telecommuting policy administration; new hire paperwork; onboarding; process improvement; retention; probationary review tracking
Policy and Training: assist in developing training including lunch and learns; compliance training management; assist with development of policy and procedures
Business Office Support: prepare documents and reports for the management team; foster teamwork between research and college business offices as well as university offices; serve as back up for other HR Specialists
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, management or related field
- Experience:
- 2-3 years experience in a professional office setting
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality
- Knowledge of human resource functions and systems
- Ability to think critically and creatively to provide and implement solutions for human resource related issues
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Education:
- Human resources certification
- Experience:
- Human resource experience within higher education, hiring or employee relations
- SAP or DASH experience
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of DASH system
- Familiarity with UTK policies and procedures
Work Location
- Position requires reporting in person in Knoxville TN. The potential for 1-2 days of Hybrid work is available.

- UT market range: MR 07
- Anticipated hiring range: Midpoint of the range
