Craft Specialist, Clyde York 4-H Center - UTIA

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have experience in general maintenance and work in tandem with the maintenance crew on the 4-H camp. This position works with small and large engine repair, HVAC electrical circuits, basic plumbing, landscape and grounds, small equipment operation such as chainsaws and hedge trimmers, and large equipment operation such as tractors and backhoes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance responsibilities including but not limited to: design, cost estimation, layout and installation of maintenance projects; locating and mapping of camp underground utilities; installation of underground utilities; inspect sewer system on a bi-weekly basis to make sure floats and control panels are operational; maintain camp electrical system such as lighting repair and upgrades, electrical panel, time clock, motor starters, electrical disconnect preventative maintenance; materials handling from generating lists, researching pricing, pickup and delivery and installation; maintain efficient operations and upkeep of camp property, buildings, and grounds; electrical, HVAC, and plumbing troubleshooting and repair; coordinate work with outside contractors and provide camp insight regarding their work; winter time walk through check of all buildings looking for water leaks, damage, and temperature; inspection of camp property for safety concerns as well as laying out safe work areas; inspection of camp equipment for safety concerns and operation; monitor repair to earthen dam at lake and water level at catfish pond; online research for parts and materials for maintenance repairs and projects; paint, pressure wash, and stain woodwork; swimming pool maintenance-pool house equipment (pumps, chlorinators) maintained and in working order; keeps pool chemicals balanced; keeps pool skimmer baskets clean; vehicle maintenance; all duties performed under the guidance and supervision of the manager.
  • Grounds responsibilities including but not limited to maintaining a fleet of zero turn mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, farm tractors, backhoes, utility carts, and skid steers to include service and minor repairs as well as operation; maintenance of grounds such as mowing, pruning, trimming, leaf pickup; garbage pickup, ground reclamation, weed control, insect control, etc.; maintain and/or enhance the landscape ; pick up limbs and brush; trim trees and shrubs; be proactive in weed control; apply pesticides/herbicides according to the label.
  • General Camp Management – Assist with other duties including, but not limited to: environmental program teaching and programming as necessary or assigned by the 4-H Center Manager; water meter reading, teaching shooting sports (archery & rifle); work in kitchen to help food prep, stocking, cleanup, and dishwashing; grill cook; general cleaning responsibilities including vacuuming, running commercial floor cleaner, cleaning windows, beams, drink stations, walls, bathrooms; breakdown and set up for groups; audio and video set up for groups; maintaining cleanliness and readiness of guest quarters; vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping, and sanitizing mattresses; cleaning and sanitizing lavatories and showers; washing, folding and sorting linens for bed turnovers; trash pickup; general duties assigned by Center Manager.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience: Five years of maintenance experience; Some college and/or specialized education and three years maintenance experience; bachelor's degree with two year's maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work nights and weekends. Good public relations skills. Advanced level of maintenance knowledge, painting, framing, and metal fabrication. Knowledge of swimming pool maintenance. How to cut and remove trees. General landscaping knowledge. Must have ability to repair HVAC systems. Welding and carpentry skills. Must have a valid TN driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Some college/technical school and three years of maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Basic Skills in General maintenance of farm equipment and refrigeration, gas and electric appliances. Preferred knowledge in all maintenance areas; two years of experience in plumbing and electrical maintenance; two years landscaping experience; experience with swimming pool maintenance and repairs; one-year general carpentry and painting experience; certification in HVAC install/repair; strong electrical background including a TN state electrical license; First Aid/CPR certified.
