Job Description
The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for the position of Certified Pharmacy Technician. The primary purpose of this position is to perform all aspects of filling prescriptions. This position also conducts a variety of routine functions such as general housekeeping, cleaning, and stocking shelves.
Responsibilities
- Ensures accuracy of complete prescription information.
- Confers with clinicians to resolve discrepancies.
- Performs calculations, computer entry, and compounding as medication orders require.
- Supplies complete prescribed medication, student guidance, and medication information associated with orders.
- Provides medication information to patients or clients, staff, students, faculty, referring clinicians and other healthcare providers.
- Performs medication pricing, refills, shipping, transfers and telephone interactions as orders necessitate.
- Assists referring clinicians with medication information, pharmacy services or other departmental connections.
- Procures medications, chemicals, and supplies to support hospital, laboratory and research needs.
- Controls inventory to meet health system needs, optimizes budget, and prevents diversion.
- Compounds prescriptions as patient needs arise.
- Maintains all record keeping.
- Conducts a variety of routine functions such as general housekeeping, cleaning, and stocking shelves.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent and must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience: Must have 1 year of relevant experience and must be a certified Pharmacy Technician and remain current in CPhT requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician registration in the State of Tennessee.
- Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: Knowledge of prescription notations, medications, and confidentiality. Computer skills for order processing. Ability to complete tasks, ensure accuracy of details, and interact with a wide variety of personnel.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

- Anticipated hiring range: $22.15-$24.41/hour
