Job Description
The purpose of this position is to serve as the lead administrator over Teaching and Learning Innovation’s (TLI's) curriculum development and design response to the entire campus. The person in this position will report to the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Innovation and will manage and oversee areas of campus need related to course and unit-based curriculum development and design (including assessment) large-classroom teaching, experiential learning, service-learning, as well as active and engaged teaching. The person in this position will also represent the unit in all opportunities related to meeting college and department level requests for support with redesigning academic courses and infusing best practices in teaching and learning within co-curricular experiences. Additionally, the person in this role will represent TLI in all curriculum-related campus committees. Examples include the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the Assessment Steering Committee.
Further, the person in this position will plan and execute several TLI signature events with the support of TLI staff. These include TLI's Teaching Summit, Innovative Teaching and Learning Conference, and Faculty Appreciation Week celebration.
Another role they will take on is leading and reviewing all TLI awards designed to support and promote curricular and teaching Innovation as well as recognition of teaching excellence. This person will work with TLI staff to ensure award participants receive compensation.
Responsibilities
- Leads the development of all collaborative efforts on behalf of TLI related to curriculum development and design activities and consultations to support campus units, colleges, and academic departments. Develops vision and plan for implementation of programs and offerings in areas such as experiential learning, service-learning, active learning, course-based assessment, risk management, safety for teaching and learning, and positive psychology with curriculum development and design team. An example of this work is leading the coordination and implementation of Student Success Grants.
- Provides leadership and supervises the planning and coordination of TLI events, teaching related resources, and professional development opportunities. Directs curriculum development and design team in providing consultation support for faculty, departments, and colleges. This includes the planning and execution of TLI signature events including The Teaching Summit and the Innovative Teaching and Learning Conference.
- Supervises curriculum development and design staff and ensures that their responses to requests are timely, effective, and professional. Provides coaching and support for faculty consultants as necessary and advises them on professional development opportunities. Contributes to a collaborative and positive work environment and helps to facilitate a culture of creativity and innovation where all members of the unit can be successful.
- Will represent TLI on all campus-level curriculum committees including the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and Assessment Steering Committee.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Has earned PhD with a minimum of four years’ experience working with faculty to support their professional development through workshops, coaching, consultations, and other programming.
- Strong knowledge and awareness of best practices with course-based assessment, large-classroom teaching, experiential learning, service-learning, positive psychology, and active learning & engaged teaching.
- Demonstrated experience supervising full-time professional staff, and supporting said staff to achieve assigned tasks, goals, and projects as well as their overall development.
- Demonstrated ability building and fostering strong relationships with relevant stakeholders (College Deans, Academic Department Heads, individual faculty, Campus Leaders and Administrators, alumni, and external partners)
- Demonstrated ability supporting faculty with curriculum development and design, curriculum mapping, and implementation of safe and effectively assessed, experiential learning courses as well as other active learning educational opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience managing a program in which grants/awards were disseminated and ensuring that all deliverables associated with such awards were completed.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Office 365, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience supporting faculty to implement evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in their courses, as well as supporting faculty development programming at two or more colleges or universities.
- Experience supporting faculty in the development of experiential learning, service learning, and/or project-based learning.
- Demonstrated ability to secure grant funding.
- Demonstrated budgetary experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects during set periods of time, including leading groups of people with diverse backgrounds to reach and surpass stated goals.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, as well as manage opportunities on a day by day and case by case basis.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency working in LMS, preferably Canvas, and experience using Adobe Design Suite
- Demonstrated ability managing private, confidential, and culturally sensitive matters with discretion.
- Demonstrated understanding and use of accessibility standards within Microsoft Office (Office 365, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
