Job Description
This position coordinates undergraduate advising, orientation, and onboarding for students in CCI's distance education programs. It serves as the lead academic advisor for these students and directs onboarding experience in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Programs and Advising. The coordinator will also work with the Assistant Dean to train and onboard new advisors. This role reports to the Assistant Dean for Online Learning and collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Advising to prioritize student success.
Responsibilities
• Lead Academic Advisor for CCI online/distance education undergraduate students
• Responsible for the academic advising experience of CCI online/ distance education undergraduate
students
• Maintain accurate records pertaining to student's academic planning
• Assess academic history and work with students to petition courses as needed
• Assist students in developing academic plans to meet desired goals
• Teach the degree audit system to students
• Teach/provide college, school, and University policies and procedures to students
• Evaluate and monitor student progress
• Evaluate students' needs in order to make appropriate referrals to campus and college resources
• Train new advisors service online students
• Prospective Student Advising and New Student Onboarding
• Serve as primary point of contact for prospective students who want to see if this program is a fit for
them - evaluate unofficial transcripts and correspond with the student
• Coordinate the new student onboarding and advising process for CCI online/distance education
undergraduate students
• Conduct new student advising appointments and assist them with their first semester registration
• Represents the university and promotes the program at recruiting events.
• Administrative functions
• Liaise with Digital Learning's student success coaches and enrollment coaches
• Attend monthly meetings with Digital Learning to ascertain the enrollment projections and stay
apprised of information
• Attend meetings for Digital Learning program advising leads to share information
• Work with CCI Online Programs office to coordinate services for online/distance education
undergraduate students
• Monitor and direct the work of other advisors assigned to work with CCI online/distance education
undergraduate students
• Communications and Reporting
• Oversees Development and updates of student academic resources including handbooks and
marketing materials.
• Collect, analyze, and report data on enrollment, retention, demographics, advising, placement, and
academic performance for internal and external reports.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree
• 3 years of direct academic advising caseload management experience
• Experience with academic advising technologies (i.e. Salesforce, EAB Navigate, etc.)
• Experience utilizing student information systems
• Experience with training employees
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to relate effectively with diverse university community
• Ability to administer programs and high functioning organizational skills
• Ability to utilize technology that supports both students and professional practice
• Knowledge of effective academic advising practices and processes
• Knowledge of students success related practices, NACADA advising standards, as well as federal and
state rules and regulations.
• Ability to interpret and implement complete rules and regulations
• Ability to gather and evaluate information and make effective recommendations
• Ability to deescalate situations and work towards effective solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of best practices in working with adult students
• Knowledge of best practices in working with online students
Work Location: On site in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Compensation and Benefits: The anticipated salary for this position is $50,000
