Job Description
The Supplemental Instruction Coordinator provides leadership for the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program as well as provides on-site supervision to undergraduate and graduate staff serving as tutors, supplemental instructors, and graduate assistants. The SI Coordinator will work to implement best practices in academic supports, foster a collaborative learning environment, and engage in strategic planning in order to grow and develop the Supplemental Instruction program. The coordinator communicates with campus partners to increase academic support access, align curricular needs with academic support services, and manages the Supplemental Instruction and embedded tutoring programs, which includes ensuring oversight and the availability of services during the evenings and on weekends. The SI Coordinator also develops and leads the complex and ongoing training and support to SI Leaders and embedded tutors, which includes the coordination of intensive training sessions that take place during off-schedule hours (weekends and evenings).
Responsibilities
• Provides management and oversight of SI daily activities, including on-site and online SI sessions and embedded tutoring;
• Works with divisions, colleges, and departments to identify regular, consistent, and functional spaces for SI sessions and embedded tutoring;
• Maintains or acquires resources (e.g., technology, content materials, pedagogical materials, etc.) for the SI and embedded tutoring programs;
• Develops specialized training curriculum using relevant and current SI and learning assistance methods;
• Works closely with academic departments and instructors to determine course-specific support needs that support the SI model;
• Ensures high quality and ethical standards for the SI and embedded tutoring programs;
• Regularly evaluates SI Leaders and assists in evaluations of tutors and Vol Study Center support staff;
• Coordinates SI, group, and embedded tutoring services for all academic terms;
• Develops curriculum for and conducts campus workshops regarding general academic support strategies (e.g., notetaking, reading strategies, study skills, study habits, etc.);
• Participates in continuing education and professional development activities in the areas of Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, study skills, learning strategies, innovative pedagogical techniques, and general academic support;
• Promotes Vol Study Center services, events, and activities via campus partnerships and marketing campaigns;
• Schedules all tutoring and learning assistance activities across various campus locations via campus communications and/or software; and
• Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of the SI Program, including conducting student surveys, reviewing usage and progress reports, providing impact analyses, and modifying services to meet program and learner needs.
Leadership:
• Oversees recruitment, hiring, and orientation of SI Leaders, embedded tutors, and Vol Study Center support staff;
• Provides mentoring, supervision, direction, guidance, and ongoing support to all SI Leaders and Vol Study Center support staff;
• Trains all SI Leaders and embedded tutors in pedagogical techniques consistent with course content and in alignment with the SI model; and
• Coordinates scheduling and manages all time entry of all SI/embedded sessions and Vol Study Center support staff.
Leads or co-leads student-facing campus events to develop connections with scholars:
• Engages scholars at new student orientations, open houses and recruitment events;
• Actively pursues professional development opportunities;
• Masters use of academic software, such as such as Banner and Salesforce, and other software, to document study sessions and communication with scholars;
• Uses other standard office software to communicate with staff and develop program materials; and
• Attends weekly leadership and department meetings.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with one year of relevant experience (includes any background in academic coaching, advising, teaching, mentoring, or support services, within education or in other people-centered fields) or master's degree with no experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of student learning and academic support strategies in higher education or related settings.
- Skill in building positive relationships with students, staff, and/or faculty.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with general office technology and software for communication and recordkeeping.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s Degree
- Knowledge of Supplemental Instruction or similar peer-led learning program models.
Experience:
- Completed master’s degree;
- Minimum one year in a higher education environment;
- Experience with Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, learning strategies, and/or academic support;
- Learning specialist or related experience developing learning strategies for students in need of additional academic support
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to train, supervise, and mentor student staff effectively.
- Skill in data-informed decision-making, strategic planning, and relationship building.
Compensation and Benefits
- UT market range: MR07
- Anticipated hiring range: Minimum $49,000
