Job Description

The University of Tennessee Knoxville seeks Graduate Student Success Coaches in the Digital Learning unit. Success Coaches empower students on their UT journey by listening, guiding, motivating, and celebrating the student's success from the point of confirmation through graduation. Success Coaches will provide concierge level support to an assigned population of graduate students through multi-channel student engagement including inbound and outbound calls, texts, virtual appointments, and emails to students to ensure they are on a path to successfully complete their desired credential. Successful candidates enjoy working in a high energy, fast-paced environment that relies heavily on technology, demonstrate enthusiasm, curiosity, and initiative, and possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with new and returning students.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coach assigned students from the point of confirmation to program completion
  • Engages in proactive outreach to empower students through positive reinforcement, building rapport and establishing meaningful academic relationships.
  • Coaches students on developing a plan to achieve their academic and career goals through time management, goal setting, study skills, learning strategies, resource referrals, etc.
  • Provides high-quality student-centered support using text, email, phone, and virtual appointments , serving a significant volume of students in a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop and use extensive knowledge of UTK policies (academic and others) to help students navigate academic choices and improve student persistence
  • Works to build student knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs that support success
  • Monitors student engagement via dashboards and implements interventions as prescribed
  • Employ case-management and other academic software to document coaching sessions and communication with students
  • Assist in new student on-boarding to include online orientation and personalized welcome emails, calls and appointments
  • Participate in recruitment activities and student retention initiatives including attending virtual open house events, information sessions, webinars, and other events as requested to offer guidance to new and returning students
  • Builds a working relationship with assigned program(s) and ensures students have access to necessary resources and tools.
  • Utilize resources and critical thinking skills to problem solve, quickly make decisions, and provide the best experience to online students at UT.
  • Serve as liaison to an assigned academic and/or administrative unit to facilitate integrated student success functions and resolve issues of competing priorities.
  • Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Experience: Approximately one (1) year of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience: Prefer 1+ years of experience in one or more of the following: academic coaching, advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services. Experience working with multicultural individuals and individuals with diverse backgrounds.
