This position is responsible for the success of the advisors as well as the students enrolled in CCI courses of study. The Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs and Advising serves as the direct supervisor for all Advisor I and II positions in the College. This role completes tasks related to supervision, administration, advising, student success initiatives, advising assessment, outreach, and recruiting.


This position is responsible for the success of the advisors as well as the students enrolled in CCI courses of study. The Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs and Advising serves as the direct supervisor for all Advisor I and II positions in the College. This role completes tasks related to supervision, administration, advising, student success initiatives, advising assessment, outreach, and recruiting.
  • Master’s Degree in any field.

  • Requires minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing a direct student caseload within academic advising.

  • Requires use of advising technologies and/or CRMs.

  • Requires understanding of and significant use of student information system to perform academic advising tasks.

  • Knowledge of effective academic advising practices and processes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of student success related practices, NACADA advising standards, as well as federal rules and regulations.

  • Ability to deescalate situations and work towards effective solutions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to interpret and implement complex rules and regulations.

  • Ability to gather and evaluate information and make effective recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience supervising in any capacity strongly preferred.

Work Location: On site in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Compensation and Benefits: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $62,000 to $67,000 depending on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, and suitability.

  • Directly supervises and provides direction for all Advisor I positions.

  • Provides direction in consultation with Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Advising to Senior Advisor positions.

  • Provides day-to-day leadership and direction for the advising team and program in conjunction with the Assistant Dean, including staff meetings and campus service. Assumes the responsibility of the team in the absence of the Assistant Dean.

  • Interprets academic policies for the advising team.

  • Coordinates the academic advising portion of freshmen, transfer and other new student orientation activities.

  • Serves as the hiring manager for new advisor I positions and leads other searches when needed.

  • Remains current on best practices for management to effectively supervise Advisor I positions on the advising team, overseeing their training and professional development through structured training, regular meetings, and/or other resources on an annual basis.

  • Holds regular meetings with direct reports to assess and properly address needs.

  • Coordinates training and professional development opportunities for the advising team.

  • Develops training documents and onboarding schedules for direct reports and advising team in the College.

  • Prepares reports on academic advising within the College.

  • Supports planning of the advising departmental budget.

  • Participates in college and campus-based committees including AALG meetings and Advising committee meetings, service, searches, and other projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for students seeking resolution regarding academic advising issues within the College.

  • Performs academic advising functions for prospective and current CCI students as needed.

  • Conducts long term academic planning (end of term review and orientation) incorporating the Volunteer Experience advising model.

  • Works with students during advising appointments to develop study abroad plans.

  • Answers detailed advising questions via email and phone.

  • Participates in advising professional organizations such as TennACADA, NACADA or other professional organizations as appropriate.

  • Trains new advisors about Academic Probation, Academic Dismissal, and Universal (uTrack) Tracking program.

  • Serves as the CCI uTrack administrator, responsible for essential functions such as setting tracking terms (new transfers/change of majors), notifying advisors of off-track students, and removing uTrack advising holds as needed.

  • Coordinats course withdraw check-ups on CCI students.

  • Identifies students who are most at risk for losing financial aid and failing to make academic progress and alerst students via email and advising appointments.

  • Coordinates the assessment activities for academic advising within the College.

  • Develops current and future assessment instruments in the Undergraduate Programs and Advising Office (UPA).

  • Coordinates and supervises the implementation of assessment initiatives within UPA.

  • Organizes, evaluates and presents UPA assessment results.

  • Makes recommendations and develop training and/or programming initiatives within UPA based on assessment results.
