HVAC Specialist - University Housing - UTK

The HVAC Specialist applies knowledge of HVAC and related systems/equipment to install, repair, maintain, clean, and service HVAC equipment; performs repair, replacement, and overhaul of equipment such as pumps and compressors; repairs sheet metal duct work, shroud and unit assemblies; performs soldering and/or press fittings on piping and equipment assembly; and performs preventive maintenance and repairs on housekeeping equipment: Performs other duties as assigned.
The HVAC Specialist for University Housing will perform specialized and highly skilled crafts in completing HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical repairs on all air conditioning, heating, and housekeeping equipment assigned by supervisor and SchoolDude (a computerized maintenance management system) within the residence halls.
Required Qualifications
Education: High school degree. EPA Certification
Experience: Three (3) years experience in field or completion of trade school or apprenticeship plus one (1) year experience. Experience may substitute for trade school education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and equipment
Ability to evaluate and repair HVAC equipment
Skilled in use of associated HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment
Knowledge of systems controls
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics related to HVAC systems, controls, and equipment
Ability to maintain records of repairs, refrigerant logs, and equipment
Knowledge to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, extractors, sweepers, dehumidifiers, scrubbers, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Vocational/Technical school degree. EPA Certification
Experience: Two (2) years in a related field
Work Location This position is located within the Department of University Housing at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. This is a full-time on-site position.

Troubleshoot and repair split HVAC systems
Perform preventive maintenance on multiple types of HVAC systems
Evaluate and repair housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, extractors, sweepers, etc
Pick-up equipment to be repaired and return equipment once repaired
Keep accurate repair logs
Clean PTAC units prior to repair
Monitor parts inventory
Other duties as assigned
