We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual with a strong work ethic to join our team. This role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a professional, hands-on environment at a functioning agricultural research center. Please note that working weekends and/or evenings will be expected, and the individual must be able to respond quickly to farm-related emergencies outside regular hours.

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual with a strong work ethic to join our team. The position provides technical support to the animal and plant science research and outreach programs at the Northeast Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center (NETREC) in Greeneville, TN.

Through our assessment process, candidates must demonstrate the following job requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma
  • Experience:
    • Some experience in an agriculture or related field
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of greenhouse operations and plant science agricultural research studies
    • Knowledge of laboratory methods including plant and animal production
    • General working knowledge of livestock production practices
    • General knowledge of research methods, statistical compilation, and data analysis
    • Ability to lead, communicate, and work well with others
    • Ability to oversee and collect data from other support personnel (including students) from research protocols
    • Ability to work under limited supervision
    • Competent in general computer skills
  • Other Conditions of Employment:
    • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work outdoors in various conditions, including extreme weather, dust, and pollen.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) certifications or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of starting employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Associate’s Degree or vocational or technical training
  • Experience:
    • 2 years’ experience in an agriculture or related field
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Farm maintenance skills in the following areas: tractors, HVAC service, general electrical repairs
    • Ability to operate and work on specialized farm equipment such as pH and EC meters.
    • Ability to scout and diagnose plant health and pests issues
    • Ability to calculate and mix blended fertilizers

About The College/Department/Division:

Established in 1932, the Northeast Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is known for its research on burley tobacco production and beef cow-calf production.

Research is conducted on the 500 acres that make up the Center. Areas of research at the Center include all aspects of burley tobacco production with emphasis on breeding and production economics, variety testing, pest management, and breeding of field crops important to the agriculture of Upper East Tennessee and animal research in the areas of genetics, silage feeding, and grazing studies with endophyte-free fescue.


Participates in the maintenance and processing of the animal science field and controlled research environments. Ensures accurate data reporting and record-keeping while adhering to IACUC compliance requirements. Implements integrated pest management programs and maintain pesticide application equipment. Collaborates with Research Associate(s) and faculty members to facilitate research protocols related to plant and animal sciences.

Maintains individual animal records, including dates, treatments, locations, feed, and other applications. Record, compile, and analyze data, including sampling and weighing animals. Assists with tours as directed by the REC Director.

Coordinates and executes research protocols with Research Associate(s), completing activities related to plant and animal sciences. Ensures compliance with work safety regulations and conduct necessary training activities.

Adheres to all UT Policies and attends relevant in-service training, including RCR, while complying with regulatory policies such as pesticide labels and APHIS requirements for regulated materials.
