The Office of Enrollment Management Communications at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Operations & Retention Communications Coordinator position. The minimum starting salary for this position is $53,938. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree- Communications, marketing, journalism, English, public relations, information sciences, business, or a related field

• 1+ years of full-time professional or internship experience related to duties and responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must have excellent writing, grammar, proofreading, and creative skills

• Possess strong self-discipline and motivation

• Knowledge and understanding of MAC operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to lead and manage projects

• Must demonstrate problem-solving, strategic thinking, critical thinking, and time prioritization skills

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations

• Ability to exercise good judgment and handle diverse and difficult situations with confidence, motivation, and flexibility

• Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at various levels and a variety of backgrounds

• Possess and demonstrate a personal commitment to excellence and efficiency, and a passion to serve future and current Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master's degree- Communications, marketing, journalism, English, public relations, information sciences, business, or a related field

• Experience working with multiple priorities, fast moving projects, and tight deadlines

• Background in communications or related creative experience

• Basic understanding and ability to work with html coding

• Experience with print and digital communication

• Experience with Slate or other CRM systems, Banner, Asana project management system

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of CRM systems

• Asana project management or similar platform experience

• Understanding of higher education priorities, processes, and workflow

• WordPress experience

• Knowledge and experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc.

The Division

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 190 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Center for Financial Wellness, University Registrar, Pre-college Research Excellence Programs, EM Research & Analytics, EM Communications, and EM Operations. This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.

The Operations & Retention Communications Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Enrollment Operations & Retention Communications and serves as a key communications liaison for the University Registrar, University Bursar, Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Center for Financial Wellness, and One Stop Student Services. The coordinator translates complex academic, billing, and financial aid information into clear, student-focused messaging across email, SMS, web, print, and automated channels.

This role supports a consistent, student-centered communication approach that helps students understand requirements, take needed action, and feel confident navigating academic and financial processes. The coordinator contributes directly to improving the student experience at major points in the academic cycle, including registration, billing, aid awarding and verification, deadlines, graduation, and term transitions.

The ideal candidate is an adaptable communicator who is comfortable working with technology platforms, managing multiple projects, and collaborating with campus partners.
