This position provides day to day guidance and oversite of the maintenance duties of multiple maintenance technicians in University Housing residence halls to include repairs to all mechanical systems within the buildings. This position will monitor the electronic maintenance management system and assign work orders as necessary. They will follow-up on completed work to ensure repairs were made correctly. This position will work with campus partners and outside contractors on projects that fall within the responsibilities of this position. They will give frequent updates on building issues and conditions to maintenance superintendent. They will be responsible for approving time and leave requests of the maintenance technicians.

Coordinates a wide variety of preventative maintenance activities and construction/renovation projects within University Housing facilities. The position also provides guidance and expertise to skilled workers, develops budget requests, supervises personnel, and maintains inventory controls for responsible units.

The Maintenance Forman has thorough knowledge of modern construction practices and standards, as well as various construction maintenance trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and masonry. The Maintenance Forman has the ability to apply this knowledge to the daily operations of assigned buildings and of the maintenance team.

Required Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: A minimum of 8 years of supervisory experience in a large, complex maintenance and construction operation.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree in a construction/maintenance-related discipline

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience

  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in a specialty area

  • Recommend and approve personnel actions including: hiring, merit raises, promotions, transfers, vacation schedules, and termination
  • Review and approve maintenance supply and material orders
  • Insure proper stock levels are maintained and that parts are on hand for any maintenance need
  • Ensure the distribution, repair, and maintenance of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Order materials and provide guidance in estimating the amount and type of materials, supplies and equipment required for projects
  • Calculate costs for billing purposes for student damage charges
