The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Project Manager for Digital Learning at UT. The successful candidate will thrive in fast paced environments and will possess the right mix of operational excellence, people skills, and meticulous attention to detail. This candidate will take initiative, demonstrate a sense of urgency, use good organizational skills, build a project team, and follow through on commitments to achieve high-quality, repeatable results. The Project Manager works closely with all Digital Learning teams, other UT stakeholders, and plays a critical role managing external partnerships. This position will manage projects across multiple teams, both internal and external. The responsibilities are broad in scope, encompassing a wide variety of activities requiring shifts in priorities. The idea candidate will be flexible and accepting of ambiguity. The Project Manager reports to the Chief Technology Core Officer of Digital Learning at UT.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: minimum of 5 years of related experience which includes 1-3 years of project management experience. Proven ability to develop and implement results-driven processes and support growing teams. Candidates must have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
  • Knowledge of and proficient in use of standard project management and change management practices
  • Ability to think strategically and innovatively
  • Ability to establish processes with a focus on execution, quality, and extreme attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with individuals across a variety of functions
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a diversified population

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience: Prefer 3-5 years of relevant project management experience with demonstrated experience leading projects and teams. Familiarity with the higher education landscape.
  • PMP, certified scrum master or equivalent certification
  • Experience developing strategies and technical specifications for projects
  • Ability to manage complex technology projects
  • Ability to clarify roles and responsibilities to ensure understanding of expectations; takes action to mitigate conflict

Work Location

  • Knoxville, TN, this position has the potential for a hybrid working capacity

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR 11
  • Target hiring range $80,000-$90,000 depending on experience

Project Management

• Experience managing complex technical projects in the launch and support of enterprise systems (Salesforce, Technosolutions Slate, etc)

• Plans, develops, implements, and manages a project team through complete task definitions and work requirement identification and assignments.

• Works closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders, leadership, and other related staff to define project objectives and scope, strategy, schedule, budget, procedures, and outcomes during various phases of the project life cycle.

• Establishes and continually monitors/manages project expectations with team; assigns tasks and identifies issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness.

• Identifies critical resource expertise and targets appropriate internal and/or external sources to ensure optimal outcome(s).

• Prepares and maintains all project status reports and schedules; tracks milestones/deliverables, and dependencies; re-sets expectations as needed in consideration of project progress/outcomes.

Relationship Management and Communication

• Builds, develops, and maintains collaborative working relationships across the university, third-party vendors, and external clients vital to project success, including managing differing priorities and resolving conflict.

• Demonstrates ability to use diplomacy, tact, and social competency to facilitate meetings and create consensus under challenging situations.

• Clarifies roles and responsibilities to ensure understanding of expectations and timeline.

Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities

• Reviews and ensures that project specifications comply with existing codes and applicable University, state and local requirements.
