The Office of Student Engagement Initiatives in The Haslam College of Business aims to develop a culture of engagement and belonging among the student body. This position works with leadership on a wide variety of communication initiatives, student programming, and data analytics. The Student Engagement Coordinator supports departmental goals through communications, programming, assessment, and operational support.

The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for an Student Engagement Coordinator (Full-time, Exempt) in the HCB Office of Student Engagement

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Experience:
    • Two years’ work experience in communications, marketing, PR, college student personnel, or a related field
    • Master's degree in a related field will be accepted in lieu of two years’ experience
    • Internships can count towards experience required
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; research and assessment skills; knowledge of social media and best practices; graphic design skills; knowledge of student development; ability to work independently and collaborate with numerous constituencies; time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Experience:
    • Experience working in communications and social media
    • Experience in higher education and/or working with student populations and programming
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of working in higher education; knowledge of working with students and student development

About The College/Department/Division: The student engagement team at Haslam is passionate about helping students discover their potential, develop professional identity, and achieve career goals. Operations:

• Create and coordinate student-facing communications, including Haslam Headlines, Haslam Career Weekly, and other undergraduate communications.

• Create and schedule content for Instagram account in support of office initiatives and priorities.

• Coordinate digital signage content and scheduling for Student Engagement initiatives.

• Capture, edit and organize photography for Student Engagement initiatives and events.

• Create and maintain communication materials, templates, photography and assets that support Student Engagement programs and events.

• Exercise sound judgment and flexibility in addressing communication and operational challenges.

• Maintain awareness of student interests and engagement through day-to-day interactions and event attendance.

• Maintain knowledge and adhere to university policies for communications and design, ADA compliance, and other college-level requirements.

Advising and Programming:

• Support the planning and implementation of Student Engagement programming, including Student Engagement Fair & Open House (fall and spring), Department Days, and others.

• Coordinate the student organization marketing committee and provide student organization leaders with communication resources, training and best practices to support marketing and engagement efforts.

• Serve as advisor to Project Inspire, providing guidance on student host development, committee operations, and content planning.

• Support student engagement initiatives that foster involvement, connection, and belonging among Haslam students.

Data Analytics:

• Track and maintain student engagement participation, attendance, and reporting data.

• Conduct surveys, interviews and other feedback initiatives to inform student engagement programs and communication strategies.

• Maintain assessment reports and data used to evaluate Student Engagement programs and communications.

• Assess student engagement initiatives and communications through open rates, click rates, event attendance and other engagement metrics to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

• Monitor student engagement trends and communication performance and recommend improvements based on analytics and student feedback.

• Support departmental assessment and reporting efforts through data collection, tracking, and analysis.

Administration:

• Serve on college and university committees relevant to position responsibilities.

• Prepare data and supporting materials for annual reporting, assessment, and departmental planning efforts.

• Provide guidance and oversight to student workers assisting with Student Engagement communications initiatives.

• Support departmental goals through the implementation of Student Engagement initiatives and priorities.
