The Mail and Package Processing Clerk supports the daily operations of campus mail and package services by receiving, sorting, tracking, and organizing incoming packages for student and university pickup. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate package processing, maintaining organized pickup locations, and providing excellent customer service to students and campus partners.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment while handling physical tasks, including lifting packages up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities include package intake and distribution, student assistance, inventory monitoring, workspace organization, and support during peak-volume periods. Employees may also assist with deliveries to residence halls and provide coverage at multiple campus locations as needed.

This is a temporary position expected to continue through spring semester 2027. As part of University Printing and Mail (UPM), the successful candidate will contribute to UPM's mission of supporting the university community through reliable mail, package, and related service operations. While primarily focused on Mail Services, team members may also assist in other UPM service areas based on operational needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Must be able to read and write, have a good driving skill with a valid TN driver license.
  • Physically must be able to lift 70 Lbs.
  • Climbing and walking is involved.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

  • Receive incoming mail and packages from carriers.
  • Sort and organize packages by destination.
  • Enter tracking information accurately into package management systems.
  • Assign packages to locker banks or designated pickup locations.
  • Deliver packages to residence halls as needed.
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff with package pickup.
  • Verify identification and release packages.
  • Answer questions regarding package status, pickup procedures, and mail services.
  • Provide professional customer service at all pickup locations.
  • Monitor package inventory and storage areas.
  • Report missing, damaged, or incorrectly processed items.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking data.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized workspaces and storage areas.
  • Follow safety protocols, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Organize package overflow and staging areas.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained.
  • Assist other areas within University Printing and Mail (UPM) as operational needs require.
  • Support high-volume periods and special projects.
  • Work at multiple campus locations as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Mail Services and broader UPM team members to support university operations.
