The Division of Finance & Administration/Office of Budget & Finance at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications for the Senior Business Analytics Analyst. Reporting to the Director, Business Analytics, Modeling & Strategies, the Senior Business Analytics Analyst serves as a senior analytical consultant supporting enterprise decision-making, institutional planning, budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, operational performance management, and strategic initiatives across the university. The position leads complex analytical efforts that support operational and strategic priorities, partnering with university leadership and stakeholders to design scalable reporting solutions, forecasting methodologies, performance measurement frameworks, and decision-support models. The Senior Business Analytics Analyst independently translates complex business challenges into analytical approaches and actionable recommendations that improve decision-making, operational effectiveness, and institutional outcomes. The position contributes to the advancement of enterprise analytics capabilities through technical leadership, process improvement, governance participation, cross-functional collaboration, and the development of scalable analytical methodologies, reporting standards, and planning frameworks.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is currently seeking applications for a Business Analytics Analyst in the Office of Budget and Finance.
Required
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience: 6-7 years of progressively responsible experience in business intelligence, analytics, reporting, financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, or related analytical functions.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Advanced abilities with querying, ETL, analysis, visualization and reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to develop complex dashboards, analytical models, forecasting methodologies, and enterprise reporting solutions.
- Advanced knowledge working with ERP systems and large relational data environments.
- Demonstrated ability supporting enterprise analytics, institutional planning, budgeting, forecasting, or operational strategy initiatives.
- Strong consultative, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to independently lead analytical initiatives and communicate recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and work direction to others.

Preferred
Education: Master’s degree in Business Analytics, Finance, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Accounting, or related field.
Experience:
- Experience with Power BI, SQL, EasyMorph, Excel, Power Query, and related analytics and visualization technologies.
- Experience with dashboard development, ETL processes, data modeling, and large relational datasets.
- Experience in higher education, government, healthcare, or other complex institutional environments.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, Workday, Banner, or similar enterprise platforms.

About The College/Department/Division
The Office of Budget and Finance provides support to university administrators in developing and implementing short and long-range financial plans for the Knoxville campus. The primary responsibilities include the preparation of the annual budget and the monitoring and tracking of the financial status of the Knoxville campus.
Business Intelligence, Reporting, and Visualization:
- Leads the design, development, implementation, and optimization of enterprise dashboards, scorecards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI, SQL, Excel, Power Query, and related analytics technologies.
- Develops scalable reporting frameworks and analytical solutions that support operational, financial, and strategic decision-making across the university.
- Partners with senior leadership and stakeholders to identify analytical needs, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and develop enterprise reporting strategies.
- Synthesizes complex analytical findings into concise, actionable recommendations for executive and nontechnical audiences.
- Establishes and promotes reporting standards, documentation practices, and reporting governance methodologies.
Data Analysis, Modeling, and Decision Support:
- Designs and maintains advanced analytical models, forecasting methodologies, scenario analyses, and decision-support frameworks.
- Leads budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, resource allocation, and institutional reporting analyses supporting strategic and operational priorities.
- Conducts advanced trend analysis, root cause analysis, forecasting, and risk/opportunity assessments using large and complex datasets.
- Evaluates operational and financial impacts of strategic alternatives and develops recommendations for leadership consideration.
- Provides consultative analytical support for institutional planning, operational effectiveness, and strategic decision-making.
Data Integration, Quality, and Process Improvement:
- Develops and optimizes complex SQL queries, data transformation processes, and automated reporting workflows using enterprise and external data sources.
- Leads reporting automation, data integration, and process improvement initiatives that enhance scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Identifies and resolves complex data quality issues and contributes to enterprise data governance, validation, and reporting standards initiatives.
- Defines reporting requirements, analytical methodologies, documentation standards, and best practices supporting university business functions.
- Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and work direction to analysts and stakeholders regarding reporting tools, analytical methodologies, and data interpretation.
- Continuously evaluates emerging technologies, analytics methodologies, and best practices to improve institutional analytics capabilities.
