The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of IACUC Training, Technology and Compliance Specialist. This position manages training, outreach, and public-facing communications for the IACUC Office. This position develops and delivers comprehensive training programs for faculty, staff, and students related to animal care and use regulations and provides guidance and support for IACUC protocol development and submission. The Specialist also oversees the IACUC website and external communications platforms, ensures ADA-compliant content, supports electronic research administration systems, and participates in post-approval monitoring and animal facility inspections to promote ongoing compliance with institutional and federal regulations.

This position plays a critical role in supporting ethical and compliant animal research across the institution and requires a highly organized, self-motivated professional with strong communication skills and a commitment to service excellence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Psychology, Animal Science or related field
  • Experience:
    • Minimum one (1) year of experience in IACUC compliance, regulatory oversight, animal research support, veterinary clinical support, laboratory or clinical research, or research compliance.
    • Experience developing or delivering training programs.
    • Experience with website management or content development.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of IACUC institutional and regulatory (USDA, PHS policy) requirements
    • Ability to review an IACUC protocol. Must have sufficient knowledge of animal handling and research/teaching procedures required to conduct post-approval monitoring
    • Ability to conduct animal facility inspections and train new IACUC members in this process
    • Skill with all Microsoft 360 applications, including Access
    • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills
    • Public speaking skills
    • Ability to build and manage a website (e.g. WordPress, SharePoint) and all related content
    • Ability to produce and edit multimedia presentations for training and outreach purposes.
    • Skill with essential software (e.g. Garage Band, Audacity) for audio or video editing is required.
    • Skill with developing, implementing and troubleshooting Qualtrics applications
    • Skill in managing virtual and in person meetings
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Biology, Psychology, Animal Science, or related field
  • Experience:
    • Two (2) or more years of experience in IACUC compliance or animal research oversight.
    • Experience with electronic research administration systems such as Huron/DASH Research or iMedRIS.
    • Experience with project management.
    • Ability to code in Python or other programming languages.
    • Professional certification such as CPIA, PMP, CAP or related credential.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to code in Python or other programming language
    • Knowledge of Huron/DASH Research and/or iMedRIS
    • Bookkeeping skills to generate monthly billing, if needed, as backup for Administrative Coordinator

About The College:

Training and Technology:

  • Support development, implementation and transition of electronic research administration systems (iMedRIS to Huron/DASH Research); develop user guides, instructional materials, and ensure continued curation of support resources.
  • Host virtual office hours and provide in-person instruction to assist investigators with on-boarding of Huron/DASH Research IACUC module.
  • Coordinate and host virtual training sessions, virtual office hours, annual refresher training, and specialized training workshops to support IACUC processes and provide support for new protocol development.
  • Manage and maintain the IACUC website and associated public-facing communications platforms; ensure ADA compliance of all content.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written, multimedia, virtual, and in-person IACUC training programs.

Data Management:

  • Track and monitor training compliance for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Review and analyze training data; prepare reports and summaries to improve program effectiveness.
  • Assist with protocol and database migration and data integrity within research administration systems.
  • Develop assessment tools to evaluate and promote training effectiveness.

Compliance:

  • Serve as an alternate voting member of the IACUC.
  • Conduct animal facility inspections and document findings
  • Participate in pre-study meetings and post-approval monitoring activities and coordinate follow-up actions.
  • Provide remedial training to address compliance concerns

Operational Support:

  • Support Occupational Health Program website and associated Qualtrics surveys
  • Provide cross-coverage and operational support for IACUC administrative and compliance staff as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of IACUC operations.
